Sugar craving? A cupcake ATM is coming to D.C.

Soon you can satisfy your cupcake craving 24/7 in Georgetown.

Two days after Sprinkles Cupcakes made Manhattan news by opening a 24-hour cupcake ATM at its midtown store, it confirms its Washington store will get one too.

Los Angeles-based Sprinkles, which  opened its Georgetown location in 2011, says it will install a hot pink cupcake ATM outside its store at 3015 M St. NW, dispensing individually boxed cupcakes.

The cupcake ATM can hold up to 760 cupcakes and dispense as many as four cupcakes at a time using robotic arms. Because the store’s employees are in house baking even when the store is closed, Sprinkles says the ATM is always stocked with fresh cupcakes.

Cupcakes purchased in its Georgetown store cost $3.75 each, or $42 a dozen. Sprinkles hasn’t said if the ATM prices will differ.

Sprinkles founder Candace Nelson said she came up with the idea of an automatic cupcake machine after having late-night sugar cravings while pregnant with her second son. Sprinkles installed the first cupcake ATM at its flagship store in Beverly Hills, Calif., in 2012. Stores in Las Vegas, Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas also have them.
