Man found dead in District Heights neighborhood had been shot, set on fire

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — Police say a man found dead in District Heights Wednesday morning had been shot and set on fire.

Officers responded around 5:30 a.m. after someone called in and reported seeing an unresponsive person lying along Hil Mar Drive, just off Suitland Road.

“Our officers discovered an adult male victim suffering from trauma,” says Officer Tyler Hunter. “He was pronounced dead here, on scene.”

Police identified the man as 32-year-old Rashaad Garnett Tate of D.C. They say he has been shot and also set on fire.

Detectives say they do not believe this was a random act.

Police urge anyone with information to contact them.

“If you’d like to remain anonymous, please call 1-866-411-TIPS,” Hunter says.

WTOP’s Sarah Beth Hensley contributed to this report from Washington.
