Tie Society turns Netflix model to menswear

WASHINGTON — The concept behind Netflix is being applied to menswear, but the company behind it insists their plan is no house of cards.

Tie Society describes itself as “a monthly subscription service for designer menswear accessories.”

The D.C.-based company lets subscribers pick out ties online, and then sends them out by mail. Like Netflix, there are no return dates and return postage and packaging is provided.

On Tie Society’s website, about 100 ties were shown as being available for rental. Another 400 were out with customers. The company says all ties are professionally cleaned and disinfected after every use.

A subscription that allows a customer to have one rented tie at any given time costs $10.95 per month. Up to 10 ties can be rented simultaneously, at a monthly cost of $49.95.

For those who don’t want to wear the same tie twice, the service could be a money-saver.
