BREAKING NEWS — NB I-395 Blocked Near Shirlington

Update at 7:50 p.m. — Northbound I-395 will be closed between Quaker Lane and Glebe Road “until further notice,” according to Arlington County.

Update at 7:40 p.m.– An Alexandria first responder who was on the scene of the earlier car fire somehow fell from I-395 into Four Mile Run, according to Arlington County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Gregg Karl. The victim is being transported via ambulance to MedStar. As a result of the incident, all lanes of northbound I-395 remain blocked.

Update at 7:20 p.m. — All northbound lanes of I-395 are now blocked near Shirlington following a separate incident. Arlington and Alexandria police and firefighters are on the scene.

Update at 7:00 p.m. — One HOV lane has reopened.

Earlier: The southbound lanes of I-395 are completely blocked near Shirlington due to a vehicle fire.

The fire has been extinguished, but the lanes remain blocked while crews work to clear the charred wreckage. Traffic is being diverted near the Pentagon, but many unlucky HOV drivers are stuck in a standstill between the Pentagon and Shirlington.

Traffic on the mainline of southbound I-395 is very heavy in the area.
