Butchery, restaurant, coffee, lounge: Urban Butcher opens in Silver Spring

WASHINGTON – Downtown Silver Spring, Md., will soon be home to a new coffee shop, butcher shop, bar and restaurant — all under one roof.

Urban Butcher, a “nose-to-tail” concept from chef/owner Raynold Mendizabal, opens Thursday, Dec. 12 at 5 p.m.

When asked what customers and neighbors can expect from the new Georgia Avenue dining spot, Mendizabal says, “Meat, food, drinks and fun.”

In the afternoons, Urban Butcher will function as a 30-seat coffee bar and butcher shop, serving a selection of in-house cured and aged meats, many of which are locally sourced.

In the evening, the coffee bar will turn into a lounge, with an extensive cocktail program, and the 50-seat dining room will open up to serve a menu of sharing plates and charcuterie.

“Everything that you see today is a result of my whole life,” says Mendizabal, who also plans to serve lunch and brunch in the future.

Urban Butcher is located at 8226 Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring.
