National Zoo celebrates panda cub’s milestones

WASHINGTON – The National Zoo’s panda cub is getting bigger every day, and the zoo’s staff took time Thursday to highlight the milestones the cub has already conquered.

The zoo says the female giant panda cub now weighs nearly 10 pounds and is starting to walk.

The panda cub was born Aug. 23 and is only the second surviving panda cub born at the zoo.

The first, Tai Shan, was born in 2005 and was returned to China in 2010.

The zoo is letting the public vote on the panda’s name.

The winning name will be revealed Dec. 1.
