Dog rescued from icy lake in Reston

WASHINGTON — A 75-pound dog that fell into Lake Thoreau in Reston, Virginia is safe after it was rescued by the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department Wednesday morning.

The dog went through the thin ice on Turtle Pond Drive around 8:40 a.m.

Rescuers put on ice commander suits and waded into the water to get to the dog.

Within 10 minutes of receiving the call, the dog was safe.

Medics evaluated it on the scene before turning the uninjured pooch over to its owner.

A Virginia pet expo running through Sunday is hoping to help those who recently got new pets to find what they need. Eric Udler, producer of the Super Pet Expo at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, said that there has been a significant increase in pets being adopted with so many people working from home.
