Lockheed To Furlough 3,000 — The federal government shutdown continues and Bethesda-based defense giant Lockheed Martin on Friday last week announced the company will furlough 3,000 employees because of it. The company has about 5,000 employees in Montgomery County. Many of those furloughed work at government facilities that are effectively closed because of the shutdown. [The Gazette]

BRT Supporters List Public Hearing ‘Misstatements’ — Dan Wilhelm, an East County resident and bus rapid transit supporter, wrote a response to what he said were a number of factually inaccurate statements from BRT opponents at two recent public hearings. In the Montgomery County Civic Federation News, Wilhelm said people had the facts wrong on right-of-way takings, BRT’s effect on local bus service, taxing policies to fund the system and the 355 South Transitway’s effect on Chevy Chase West.
