WASHINGTON – Drivers might notice a welcome dip in the price at the pump this month.

In the D.C. metropolitan area, drivers can expect to pay about $3.37 a gallon, compared with $3.42 per gallon last week and $3.91 one year ago, according to the latest report from AAA Mid-Atlantic.

The national average is also down this year. The report says the average price has fallen for 26 straight days, the longest streak in 2013.

Gregg Laskoski, a senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com, says healthy refinery production and fuel supplies are contributing to this fall’s lower prices.

“In North America, our supply is much better fortified today than it was just a couple years ago,” Laskoski said.

Several factors, including severe storms or hurricanes and sour negotiations with Syria or Russia, could send gas prices right back up.
