DMV cancels driving tests in D.C.

WASHINGTON – Most driving tests in D.C. scheduled between Sept. 24 and Oct. 11 are canceled, the District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles announced Tuesday.

About 800 people are affected.

Customers will be contacted by email or letter to reschedule their road tests online or by calling 311. They can alslo check the DMV’s website for cancelations. For a fee, customers can test with a third party. The problem is being attributed to staffing issues.

Lucinda Babers, D.C. DMV director, apologized to customers for the inconvenience in a statement.

” In August, D.C. DMV began the process to hire three, full-time road test examiners, and we are expecting to hire qualified people as soon as possible,” said Babers.

Once examiners are hired the DMV will reach out to customers to “expedite rescheduling the road test,” the DMV said in a news release.
