Wicked Waffle coming to Westfield Montgomery

A no butter and no syrup waffle shop is coming to the new food court in Westfield Montgomery Mall.

Wicked Waffle, the downtown D.C. restaurant that offers waffle sandwiches, soups, desserts and coffee, hopes to open by Nov. 1 in Westfield’s renovated food court area.

Blogger Robert Dyer first reported the news.

Co-owner Chad Deitrick said the shop didn’t initially consider Maryland when it looked to expand. It opened two years ago near Farragut Square.

But with his partner Thierry Jugnet (who runs the popular Mosaic Cuisine & Cafe in Rockville) the two decided a new spot in Bethesda “just made sense,” Deitrick said.

The two looked at a storefront space in the mall across from the Aroma Espresso Bar, but decided on the mall’s refurbished and reworked food court for more exposure.

Wicked Waffle uses the same light and flaky waffles that are a staple at Mosaic. But instead of a full menu of entrees, Deitrick offers a variety of made-to-order waffle sandwiches, soups, salads and deserts. Deitrick said the Westfield menu will include some additions, including waffle fries, creme brulee and tiramisu.

The menu also offers breakfast sandwiches — egg and cheese, bacon egg and cheese and a few others.

Deitrick is also hiring, so check out Wicked Waffle’s Facebook page.
