Faux eggs receive billionaire backing

WASHINGTON — Beyond Eggs has the backing of Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates and Paypal billionaire Peter Thiel. It can replace eggs and without a chicken ever being involved in the process

Gates, who has made no secret of his belief that meat consumption should be curbed, is behind Hampton Creek Foods, a company that creates plant-based soy and gluten-free alternatives to eggs.

The egg powder can be used for everything from homemade mayonnaise to cookies, though The Los Angeles Times doesn’t recommend using it in cakes or brownies.

The faux eggs are being sold in Whole Foods in California and could soon be in grocery stores all over the world.
