One of Bethesda’s most popular restaurants will close next week while it undergoes an extensive makeover.

Jaleo Bethesda (7271 Woodmont Ave.) will be closed from Sept. 3 to Sept. 8 as workers remodel the restaurant’s interior. The restaurant hopes to resume service on Sept. 9.

Jaleo announced the move on Monday. The tapas eatery from chef Jose Andres has been a cornerstone at Bethesda Row since 2001.

In a press release, the restaurant said the remodel will be “inspired by avant garde Spanish design,” with details meant to show Spanish culture and traditions. There will be new art, foosball tables designed by Andres and a Spanish artist and a new display showcasing Spanish cheeses and cured hams.

Andres, who lives in Bethesda, has three Jaleo restaurants in the D.C. area and one in Las Vegas.
