Which era do you prefer? Poll finds Americans long for the 1950s

Preferred Decade Poll

Which decade would you most like to live in?

WASHINGTON – A new Economist poll finds that a majority of Americans yearn for the bubble gum days of the 1950s when Elvis and sock hops and whether to buy a new Chevrolet with rocket-shaped fenders were all that troubled the oldest Baby Boomers.

The decade also brought McCarthyism, air raid drills and suburban sprawl. But the poll found the decade was most popular among women and adults ages 65 and older.

Younger Americans ages 18 to 29 preferred the 1920s or the 1990s. In second place, overall came the age of Aquarius, better known as the 1960s.
