Police: 12-year-old with gun tries to rob man in D.C.

WASHINGTON – A preteen suspect with a gun reportedly tried to rob a man of his cellphone in D.C. Wednesday.

D.C. police tweeted about the incident at 1:19 p.m., saying a 12-year-old was a suspect in an armed robbery.

A police spokesman tells The Washington Post the suspect reportedly pointed a handgun at the male victim and unsuccessfully tried to take the cellphone.

The victim described the suspect as 4 feet 6 inches tall.

A high-ranking police official also tells the Post the suspect “probably is 12,” even though the age estimate is based on the victim’s account.
