12-inch water main breaks in Hyattsville

WASHINGTON – A water main break in Hyattsville at Adelphi Road and Belcrest Road has the right lane closed between Belcrest Road and Van Buren Street.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission says the break in the 12-inch main occurred after 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The main dates back to 1949.

Water in the area has been shut off.

WSSC says about 40 customers are affected.

WSSC crews arrived around 7 a.m. and began work around 8 a.m. Friday.

Repairs are expected to take six to eight hours, says WSSC spokesman Jerry Irvine.
