Inner Loop reopens after fatal crash

WASHINGTON – A fatal crash closed the Capital Beltway’s Inner Loop for more than five hours early Thursday.

The crash occurred before Branch Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Thursday and involved two motorcycles and two passenger vehicles.

The highway reopened just before 6 a.m.

Officials say the two motorcyclists were taken to an area hospital, where one was pronounced dead. The other motorcyclist is in serious condition.

There was no word on the condition of the drivers of the other two vehicles.

Drivers early Thursday got around the scene by getting off the Inner Loop at the exit for Allentown Road. The incident caused a three-mile delay.
