Driver hits, kills 17-year-old in Charles County

WASHINGTON – A 17-year-old is dead after a driver struck him on a Waldorf, Md., street.

Matthew Daniel Douglas, 17, was on the westbound side of Berry Road near Cassidy Street in Waldorf at about 12:50 a.m. Saturday when a Lexus hit him, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office says. The driver of the Lexus, a 57-year-old man from White Plains, Md., stayed at the scene following the crash.

Emergency crews transported Douglas, of Waldorf, to Prince George’s Hospital Center. He died several hours later as a result of his injuries, authorities say.

Officials have not said what led to the crash. The sheriff’s office is investigating the collision.
