Man shot in Alexandria Wednesday morning

WASHINGTON – A man was shot in Alexandria early Wednesday morning and is in critical condition, police say.

The 35-year-old was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital shortly after 7 a.m. from a home in the 5400 block of Holmes Run Parkway.

Police say in a news release that the man taken to the hospital was a former resident of the home and was there to pick up his belongings from his estranged wife, who still lives in the house.

Another man, 23, who was treated for a gunshot wound to the hand, was visiting the home at the time.

Police were able to recover a pistol.
