1 killed, 2 injured in Cherry Hill Road crash

WASHINGTON — One person was killed and a second seriously injured when an SUV collided with a tractor trailer carrying mail near Orchard Center early Monday morning. Montgomery County police say 24-year-old Yesewlek Endihnew Tizale, of Potomac, Maryland, was driving the Infinity SUV. She died at the hospital. Her male passenger, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer, Daniel Free, 48 of Wheaton, was also injured but he was expected to survive. Police believe Tizale turned right onto Cherry Hill Road from Broadbirch Drive and collided with the tractor trailer, which was travelling on east on Cherry Hill, in the intersection. The rig, which was transporting U.S. mail, ended up on its side. The crash shut down Cherry Hill Road beginning about 3 a.m. for the crash response and investigation. The road reopened to traffic about 1 p.m. Monday. Hazmat crews were also called in to cleanup spilled fuel.
