Anne Arundel’s superintendent to take over in Prince George’s Co.

WASHINGTON – The new CEO for Prince George’s County Public Schools will be Anne Arundel County’s current superintendent, Kevin Maxwell, The Washington Post reports.

Sources tell the Post County Executive Rushern Baker has appointed Maxwell, 61, to the post. A formal announcement is expected Friday.

Maxwell would be the first CEO appointed to the second largest school system in Maryland under new powers the Maryland General Assembly granted to Baker.

He would become the eighth chief to take over in PGCPS in 14 years.

In addition to heading Anne Arundel County’s school system, Maxwell has held top slots in both Montgomery and Prince George’s counties and has taught in Prince George’s.

Maxwell replaces William R. Hite Jr., who left PGCPS to head Philadelphia’s school system. The term of Alvin Crawley, the interim superintendent, ends Aug. 30.
