Registered sex offender charged with killing 8-year-old girl

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a registered sex offender is charged with murder in the death of an 8-year-old Florida girl who vanished last night while shopping with her mother.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says Donald James Smith abducted Charish Perriwinkle after befriending her and her mother and offering to buy them clothes at Wal-Mart. The girl’s body was found today in a wooded area.
