Another big, out-of-town restaurant group is going to be getting a piece of the Washington region dining pie. Fox Restaurant Concepts, a Phoenix-based restaurant group will open True Food Kitchen in the Mosaic District in the summer of 2014.

True Food Kitchen is a collaboration between Fox Restaurant Concepts and holistic health writer and professor Andrew Weil, and serves a menu that highlights Weil’s “anti-inflammatory food pyramid.” The restaurant in Merrifield is taking over the space formerly expected to house Empire Oyster House of restaurateur Jeff Black, who pulled out of his deal for Mosaic late last year.

True Food Kitchen will have approximately 230 seats inside and out, according to Anita Walker from Fox. But the company has larger plans for the region, she added.

“We’d love to find a great space in the District for True Food and potentially another brand,” she said.

Fox’s other brands range from the more casual Sauce Pizza & Wine and Zinberger Wine & Burger Bar to North Italian Farmhouse, a rustic Italian restaurant, and the newly opened Little Cleo’s Seafood Legend in Phoenix. Most of their restaurants are in Arizona and California, with a smattering of spots in other Western states.
