Lane shifts on I-395 to begin Sunday for 3rd Street Tunnel project construction

WASHINGTON — Lanes on I-395 will shift between E Street and Massachusetts Avenue beginning Sunday, the D.C. Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

Traffic patterns will also shift on the 3rd Street ramp from the Massachusetts Avenue/H Street area into the 3rd Street Tunnel’s southbound lanes.

The shifts come as a new phase of construction begins on the 3rd Street Tunnel project. These changes are expected to remain in place until August 2016.

DDOT recommends drivers find alternate routes during this time, as lane and ramp closures will cause delays. During this time, drivers are urged to slow down in construction zones, where fines will double.

Also, trucks will need to follow detours and respect over-height restrictions in the area.

No parking restrictions are expected due to the construction.
