WASHINGTON – A Fredericksburg man carrying a loaded gun was stopped by security officers at Dulles International Airport Sunday.

Transportation Security Administration workers spotted the .22 caliber revolver in the man’s carry-on bag as it went through an X-ray machine at the security checkpoint. The gun was loaded with five rounds, the TSA said.

Airport police cited the man with a state of Virginia gun charge. He was allowed to catch his flight to Houston, but without the gun and ammunition.

The incident did not affect airport operations. The weapon was the fourth gun stopped at Dulles this year, according to the TSA.

Guns are not allowed in carry-on luggage. However passengers may pack firearms into checked baggage if the items are properly packaged and declared. Firearms must be unloaded, packed in a hard case, locked and packed separately from ammunition.
