Comcast adds 3,800 Wi-Fi hot spots in Washington region

Comcast Corp. customers can now access thousands of Wi-Fi hot spots around the Washington area for free.

Comcast’s Xfinity Wi-Fi service is available in about 3,800 spots in the District, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Arlington, Old Town Alexandria, Reston, Manassas and Woodbridge.

Non-Comcast customers can use the hot spots for free until July 4.

Comcast said the hot spots cover key locations, including parks, shopping and dining districts, schools and small businesses.

Comcast has similar citywide Wi-Fi hot spot programs in Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and California.

The service appears as “xfinitywifi” on your list of available wireless networks. Users join the network after following sign-in prompts.
