Inspector General: County Contractor Improperly Planted Trees — A report from the county’s inspector general says hundreds of trees along Montgomery streets, including about 30 cherry trees in Kenwood, were improperly planted and and are at risk of falling in severe weather. The report also alleges the county’s Department of Transportation removed a contracted arborist who called attention to the problem. The trees were planted by contractor Ashton Manor Environmental. Part Of Bethesda Avenue Closed This Weekend — Bethesda Avenue at Woodmont Avenue will be closed this weekend, from 4 a.m. on Saturday until 9 p.m. on Sunday, according to a sign in front of the Lot 31 construction site. Crews are installing a second tower crane to build an underground parking garage and two apartment buildings.
