N.Y. man killed in one-car crash in Va.

WASHINGTON – A man from New York was killed in a one-car crash near Lorton early Saturday morning, the Virginia state police say.

According to a statement from the police, a Honda Civic ran off the right side of Interstate 95 at the 164-mile marker and struck a tree around 5 a.m.

The front seat passenger, Rashid K. Humphreys, 30, of Yonkers, N.Y., was ejected from the car in the crash, the police say, and taken to Potomac Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the driver, Thomas J. Smith, of Woodbridge, Va., and a second passenger, Robert D. Brown, Jr., of Fredericksburg, Va., suffered minor injuries.

Smith has been charged with reckless driving, the police say.
