WASHINGTON – More than 150 people have applied to serve on the Prince George’s County school board, as part of the reform process approved by legislation in Annapolis that takes effect next month.

The Washington Post reports that the hopefuls for the board include parents, university professors and corporate leaders.

Some community groups have objected to the new measures, which give County Executive Rushern Baker III more power over the organization of the school system, including the power to select the new superintendent and three of the four new board members.
