6 D.C. restaurants land on list of highest-grossing in U.S.

WASHINGTON — It’s a good time to be in the restaurant industry in D.C.

Restaurant Business is out with its list of the top 100 highest-grossing independent restaurants in the country, and quite a few from Washington made the list.

Old Ebbitt Grill came in sixth place, pulling in $28,056,008 in sales in 2015, with Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab trailing behind in 16th place and bringing in $20,500,000 in sales.

The Hamilton also made the list at 20th with $18,383,790 in sales, followed by The Source at 33rd ($16,700,000 in sales), Le Diplomate at 41st ($16,101,034 in sales) and Sequoia at 53rd ($15,200,000 in sales).

These restaurants might be raking in the profits, but D.C. diners aren’t necessarily breaking the bank to eat at these establishments. The average check for the local restaurants on the list range from $34 at The Hamilton to $72 at Joe’s.
