Jose Andres’ selfie campaign gets food to those who need it

WASHINGTON — D.C. restaurateur and chef Jose Andres has a new way to get fresh fruit and vegetables to people in need. The D.C. restaurateur and chef has partnered with Wholesome Wave, a group that gets fresh and local food to people in need, and Naked Juice for a campaign that will bring fruit and vegetables to people in the District who live in “food deserts,” DCist reports. All you need to do is tweet a picture of yourself with the hashtag #DrinkGoodDoGood, and Naked Juice will donate the monetary equivalent of 10 pounds of produce.

D.C. Hunger says that 13.4 percent of households in the District don’t have enough access to food, and Andres calls it “a very silent issue.” He tells DCist, “people don’t like to be going around and saying, ‘I don’t have food to bring today to my table.’ But hunger is a true issue.” He says that the selfie campaign is a simple step people can take to help out neighbors in need.
