11 taken to hospital after chain-reaction crash on Baltimore Beltway

WASHINGTON — Eleven people were taken to hospitals Monday night after more than a dozen vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash on the Baltimore Beltway.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on the ramp from the outer loop of Interstate 695 to the southbound Jones Falls Expressway.

According to Maryland State Police, a preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle on the ramp hit a jersey wall and got stuck on the roadway. Oncoming vehicles, including a tractor trailer and an ambulance, hit the car. Officials say no patients were in the ambulance at the time of the crash.

A total of 13 vehicles were involved.

The outer loop of I-695 was closed for a few hours Monday night during the investigation, but re-opened around midnight.
