Paving to cause overnight lane closures

WASHINGTON — It’s been a rough ride on the Capital Beltway through McLean, Virginia. The Outer Loop was milled last week but when the weather took a turn for the worse, crews postponed their overnight paving operation, leaving the lanes milled and unstriped.

The worst pavement is reported between the George Washington Parkway and Georgetown Pike. Callers to the WTOP Traffic Center said numerous potholes had opened up in the outside lanes after the steady rain on Friday.

A tractor trailer accident occurred near the George Washington Parkway during the rainy Friday morning commute. The truck crashed into a traffic attenuator. The lane blockage caused significant delays away from Maryland and on Interstate 270.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, alternating lane closures are scheduled for the paving operation between the American Legion Bridge and the Old Dominion Drive overpass during the overnight hours through October 9.

It seats up to eight, can be equipped with almost every luxury touch and competes with SUVs costing thousands (or tens of thousands) more.
