Mergers and acquisitions having record year

It has been a record year for mergers and acquisitions.

Capital IQ reports the deal value for worldwide M&A for 2014 so far has already topped last year, coming in at $2.68 trillion.

In the history of worldwide M&A, there have been just 40 deals of $50 billion or more, 6 have taken place in past 12 months.

Locally, Valence Surface Technologies, part of Thrive Capital, acquired Blue Streak Finishers, and Charlesbank Capital Partners acquired HDT Global. The terms of both deals are not disclosed.

Strong start to 2015

The end of 2014 delivered an increase in major deals as TASC merged with Engility and Lockheed. Raytheon GD and ManTech made significant transactions in the defense intel and health sectors. January has already delivered mergers and acquisitions. Symantec Corporation has acquired Narus, Inc., which provides cyber security data analytics solutions. PAE acquired USIS Global Security and Solutions Business, which delivers litigation support, biometric capture, and enrollment in security. Lastly, Textron Inc. acquired Douglas Equipment Limited, a subsidiary of the Curtiss Wright Corporation.
