Dave’s Take: Redskins played a boring but beautiful game

WASHINGTON — Boring is fun. Alright, that is not exactly true and it is not a slogan that will catch on, but Sunday’s 17-10 loss by the Redskins to the Dolphins was just that — boring.

Actually, the competition part was exciting. The Redskins had a chance to force overtime and maybe open the season with a win for the first time since 2012.

Instead, it was a boring loss because the Redskins did not choke like we have seen in the past. Yes, they did get in their own way with 11 penalties, but they had the edge in several categories, with the notable exception of the scoreboard.

On offense, Kirk Cousins was not spectacular, but he was solid and guided an offense that had the ball almost 16 more minutes than the Dolphins. He was able to do that because the offensive line did its job.

Cousins was only sacked once, a running game was established, and the Redskins had more yards on offense than the Dolphins. There was even a 17-play scoring drive, which did not happen once all last season.

There is not even a quarterback controversy to stir up — boring.

The new look defense only allowed the Dolphins 10 points (with the deciding 7 coming on special teams).

After all the drama around here, boring is beautiful and it will be even better when all the boring stats buried in a box score lead to a win.
