WASHINGTON – Gov. Bob McDonnell is seeking federal disaster aid for more localities affected by the Aug. 23 earthquake and more than 50 aftershocks.

McDonnell has asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for more help for individuals and governments in seven counties and the city of Fredericksburg.

Louisa county, the center of the quake has already received $6.6 million, with most of that money going to repair Louisa County High School and Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. More than $1 million went to 50 individuals or businesses.

McDonnell says they have found damage to 130 homes in other jurisdictions, including two that were completely destroyed.

The deadline for people in Louisa County to file for assistance was recently extended to March 5.

The localities included in the Governor’s latest request include the city of Fredericksburg, and the counties of Culpeper, King George, Orange, Spotsylvania, Albemarle, Fluvanna and Goochland.
