RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – A Virginia lawmaker who entered a plea in connection with accusations that he had an improper sexual relationship with a teenager has had his jail work-release privileges revoked.

Media outlets report that Henrico County Sheriff Michael Wade on Thursday revoked Democratic Del. Joseph D. Morrissey’s privileges to leave the jail during the day.

Wade didn’t immediately return a message by The Associated Press to explain the reason for the change.

On Thursday, the 57-year-old Morrissey announced he’d resign, effective Jan. 13, but plans to run for his seat in a special election.

Morrissey last week entered an Alford plea on a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. In an Alford plea, a defendant acknowledges there is sufficient evidence for a conviction but doesn’t admit guilt.
