Renaissance wraps $30M downtown D.C. hotel renovation

Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc. has completed a $30 million renovation of rooms and suites at its Renaissance Washington, D.C. Downtown Hotel.

The hotel, at Ninth and K streets NW, has 807 rooms and suites, placing it No. 8 on the Washington Business Journal’s list of largest hotels in the Washington region.

The guest-troom renovations follow a recent lobby renovation.

“The new guestrooms and our recent lobby re-concept are part of the hotel’s evolution into more of a lifestyle space beyond being termed a convention hotel,” said General Manager Sharon Lockwood.

Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based Sunstone owns one other Washington property: the Marriott Tysons Corner. The company owns 26 hotels nationwide.

Bethesda-based Marriott International Inc. (NYSE: MAR) acquired Renaissance Hotels in 1997.
