Tool can aid investigators by retrieving phone data

WASHINGTON – Even if you delete everything from your cellphone, the information may not disappear.

A high-tech forensic system developed by a company called Cellebrite reportedly can extract information from 95 percent of all cellphones on the market today, meaning deleted information like text messages and pictures could still be retrieved.

The system is marketed toward law enforcement agencies to gather evidence that can stand up in a court of law. The company says its tool is only designed to be used if the cellphone is part of a proper chain of evidence in connection with an investigation.
