Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty headline Dover’s Firefly Festival

WASHINGTON – The Firefly Festival made its debut in 2012, and is returning to Dover, Del. on June 21.

The three-day music festival’s inaugural run was a great success, and this year’s lineup is even bigger than before.

The lineup includes Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the Lumineers, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Foster the People and Alabama Shakes. Here’s for the full Firefly Festival lineup.

Firefly offers a less overwhelming alternative to mega-festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza and stands as the only mainstream multi-day music festival that is easily accessible to D.C. area residents.

Last year’s concertgoers were able to take advantage of a bus shuttle service that offered round trip service to the festival from the District, Alexandria, Annandale, Springfield, Annapolis and Baltimore.

Firefly hasn’t announced whether the shuttle service will operate this year.

On-site camping is an interesting lodging option for attendees. For a premium, Glamping provides campers with a private tent, access to an air-conditioned lounge and private showers.

Compared to last year’s estimated 30,000 to 40,000 attendees per day, the 2013 Firefly Festival is expected to be a little more crowded.

Below is a video announcing the 2013 lineup, featuring video from last year’s festival:
