Georgetown-Syracuse game to set attendance mark

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The final Big East regular-season game in the Carrier Dome between No. 11 Georgetown and No. 8 Syracuse is a sellout and will attract the largest crowd in the history of the dome.

The total ticket count for Saturday’s matchup is 35,012, which breaks the Carrier Dome’s previous NCAA record for an on-campus college basketball crowd in the regular season. The old mark of 34,616 was set Feb. 27, 2010, when the Orange hosted Villanova.

It also will be the 72nd crowd of greater than 30,000 for a Syracuse men’s game, and the Hoyas have been the opponent 17 times.

The Villanova game was also announced as a sellout in advance, the only other time that’s happened for a Syracuse men’s basketball game. More seats have since been added and the football press box area is also being utilized Saturday, contributing to the larger sellout number.

Syracuse officially joins the Atlantic Coast Conference on July 1.
