WASHINGTON – The satirical news website, The Onion, likes to poke fun about parenting with their character “e-Mom.”

In the below spoof, e-Mom talks about how social media is revolutionizing the way parents stalk their college-aged kids.

But it looks like it may no longer be a joke. Education Database Online reports half of parents who join Facebook are only there to keep tabs on their kids. And more than 40 percent are checking their kids’ profiles daily.

In the last three years, the number of moms on Facebook has jumped from 50 percent to 72 percent. Unfortunately for them, 30 percent of teenagers say they would “unfriend” their parents immediately if they could, reports Mashable.

Not surprisingly, one in three teens says he’s embarrassed by comments left by his parents.
