Insomnia linked to suicidal thoughts

Kristi King, wtop.com

WASHINGTON – Getting a good night’s sleep is important not just for the next day at work, but also for your overall mental well-being.

People who feel like they will never sleep well are at higher risk of suicide, according to a new study by the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.

That specific feeling differs from insomnia or feeling hopeless about other issues such as relationships or careers, the study says.

The findings should prompt doctors to ask people about suicidal feelings if they are being treated for depression and report severe problems sleeping, the study’s author says.
