Pedestrian struck and killed in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON – A vehicle struck a pedestrian Wednesday morning in Northeast D.C., killing the man and snarled the inbound commute on New York Avenue.

WJLA reports the man was hit in the 1300 block of New York Avenue near Kendall Street at about 5 a.m. The man died at a local hospital, WJLA says, and the driver stayed on the scene.

The incident shut down the inbound lanes of New York Avenue. Two left lanes reopened around 7:40 a.m. All lanes opened by 8:10 a.m.

The incident appears to be the second fatal pedestrian collision in two days. On Tuesday, a 94-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while in a crosswalk in Northwest D.C.
