‘Free Shipping Day’ exceeds $1 billion in sales

WASHINGTON — The most wonderful time of year just got even better.

Thousands of online retailers are promising free shipping on Thursday with on-time Christmas delivery.

Free Shipping Day” is a shopping day that has grown exponentially,  exceeding $1 billion in sales over the past two years.

It’s enticing for many who don’t mind buying a gift, but hate the added expense of sending it.  In fact, one survey found 90 percent of consumers spend more when they’re offered free delivery.

Many large and small retailers are participating, including L.L. Bean, J. Crew, Nordstrom, Sports Authority, Target, Harry and David, REI, Lands’ End, Nordstrom and many more.

The hip-hop icon of Wu-Tang fame has teamed up with the ice cream brand Good Humor to re-imagine the signature "Turkey in the Straw" jingle played by ice cream trucks all over the country. Because, as it turns out, the tune has a problematic past.
