Different directions: The unpredictable nature of holiday traffic

Amy Freedman, wtop.com

Everyone is going everywhere. That’s how it feels when you’re driving during the holiday season and that is the reality. As we are all busy enjoying our eggnog, latkes or other holiday traditions, we tend to get even more frustrated than usual when we can’t get to our destinations with ease.

The fact is that the days leading up to the holidays can be among the most unpredictable and busy on the roadways.

Time of day and regular traffic patterns become meaningless as folks run around trying to get that most-wanted gift, drop something off to friends they won’t see on the holidays, put in an appearance at parties, attend pageants, play or choir practice, etc., etc., etc.

Now that you feel exhausted just thinking about it all, remember this can be “the most wonderful time of the year.” We have to take a collective deep breath and accept that we may see a traffic jam at a time of day when we usually don’t because everyone is going everywhere… and so are we!

Happy holidays to all and please be safe and PATIENT out there!!
