Dulles Toll Road hike coming Jan. 1

WASHINGTON – Higher tolls are coming to the Dulles Toll Road in the New Year.

Tolls at the main toll plaza will increase by 25 cents to $1.75 starting Jan. 1. Tolls at the on/off ramps will also increase by 25 cents to $1 on Jan. 1.

There’s another hike planned for Jan. 1, 2014, where tolls will be $2.50 at the main toll plaza.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors have deferred a decision about toll rates for 2015.

The hikes will be used to finance the Dulles Metrorail project International Airport. Phase one, which is over 80 percent complete, will run from East Falls Church to Wiehle Avenue in Reston. Phase 2 will run from Wiehle Avenue to Ashburn in eastern Loudoun County.

Phase one is expected to be finished by late next summer, but trains won’t be running until at least late next year.
