First daughter Malia Obama interning this summer on the set of ‘Girls’

WASHINGTON — Passers-by in the hipster area of Williamsburg in Brooklyn this summer might make a double-take this summer as they stroll past the New York set of HBO’s “Girls.” Turns out that lucky intern fetching coffee for the crew is none other than President Barack Obama’s eldest daughter, Malia. According to the entertainment magazine US Weekly, Malia, 17, is looking at breaking into a career in the entertainment industry, and was given the opportunity to work on the popular show about single 20-somethings after a meeting with creator/actress Lena Dunham at the White House. The NY Post’s “Page Six” has photos of the first daughter on the set.

According to UsMalia is set to graduate from private Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., next year, and has been college shopping for the fall. Reportedly, she was spotted checking out her dad’s alma mater, Columbia University, plus New York University, Stanford University, and the University of California at Berkeley. It wasn’t the first time she worked on a television crew, however. The magazine reports that Malia spent last summer as a production assistant for Halle Berry’s CBS show “Extant.”
