Principal who came out fired for low student test scores

WASHINGTON – A longtime D.C. high school principal’s contract will not be renewed due to low student test scores, according to D.C. Public Schools.

Pete Cahall, the principal at Wilson High School, will finish out the 2014-2015 school year.

Cahall came out as gay to his students earlier this year. When asked if his firing was related to coming out, Cahall said he would not comment.

He tells WTOP he wants to transition quietly.

“I don’t want to send the school into a tailspin,” he says.
