Suspect eludes police after two-story fall

WASHINGTON — A police chase in Baltimore Sunday morning came to an unusual end.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the city police tried to arrest a man after witnessing what they called “drug activity.” The man ran away and climbed onto the roof of a dilapidated house on Ramsay Street. While the police were trying to get him to surrender, he fell through the roof.

That wasn’t the end of it.

The fire department was called at about 9 a.m., and they worked for the next seven hours to shore up the house enough to rescue the man, the Sun says — even setting up an ad hoc carpentry shop to build supports.

The fire department says the man was conscious and talking with them despite the two-story fall. But at about 4 p.m., the firefighters realized the man had somehow escaped.

Police tell the Sun they don’t want to speculate what may have happened to the man.
